THOUGHTS ON COMMUNION (by Alan Newton)

FEBRUARY 28, 2012

Shalom All. If you have been looking out of your window at night or daring to step outside and look into the skies, you have seen (2) bright stars, actually planets. That's Venus and Jupiter!! They will continue to commune and come closer together throughout March. Around the 12th-13th they will be only 3 degrees apart-we'll be sharing some thoughts about that in the coming days. Just watch them come closer together over the next 10 days or so, the heavens are declaring wonderful things.

Alan was sharing with me some thoughts on Communion and I asked him to put it into a message. I felt it would really minister to many of you. It is so liberating to be delivered from the ritualistic sacrament. Isn't it wonderful to know that every time you feel spiritual or think on the Messiah you don't have to eat bread or crackers and drink wine or grape juice? (That could really create some health problems). Instead, we come into our union while feasting on the very essence of Him that's manifesting in every aspect of life. Feast on the study below:

--------------------------------------------------------

We need to always remember that there is nothing ‘new’ in The Bible after Genesis. Every concept addressed in scripture has its ‘roots’ revealed in Genesis, and Communion is no different. However, many of these ideas we sometimes take for granted are cleverly intertwined, and can only be revealed by Holy Spirit, and a lot of ‘word archeology’.

In Gen. 2:21 we read that YHWH Elohim causes a ‘deep sleep’ to fall on Adam, and YHWH took one of Adam’s ribs (sides; facets) and ‘closed up’ the flesh instead. The words used to describe this procedure indicate the condition of Adam after the ‘operation’ was inferior to the condition of Adam before this. And so we are told that Adam has his flesh closed up, or sealed up. In the following chapters, the scriptures describe Eve as being Adams’ flesh. And then they are prophesied to become ‘one flesh’. And then from Gen. chapter six through ten, we read of God declaring that all flesh has become corrupted, and declaring the end of all flesh, and the flood with which to bring all this about, and the reproduction of all kinds of flesh after the flood. Interestingly, the next reference to ‘flesh’ is in telling Abram to circumcise the flesh of his foreskin as part of a covenant pageant. There are several other references in Genesis after this about flesh, and you can read those for yourself if so inclined.

Flesh, basar rf"ßB' in Hebrew, is a compound word that comes from the idea of ‘prince’. The word most often translated as ‘prince’ is rf"ß, pronounced ‘sar’, and is used to primarily illustrate a quality or ability of reigning in a specific capacity. It is also the same word used to for Sarai and Sarah. You can see the ‘sar’ in both words. Sar is also the word that Israel is based on.

rf, or ‘sar’, is used many times in scripture to communicate a variety of authorities, or titles. One of the most visible illustrations, at least to me, in in Isaiah 9:6 where Isaiah describes his vision of Messiah. Isaiah lists a number of ‘names’, or titles and the last one he lists is “Prince of Peace”. Or in Hebrew, Sar Shalom. This word, sar, is obviously describing one that has the ability and the potential of being a ruler in whatever capacity he is so designated. The Prince is the son of the king, or queen, and if given the opportunity, is qualified to ascend the ladder to the Throne. Sar is, without question, describing a level of ‘potential to perform’.

Now, let’s get back to ‘flesh’, or basar. Basar is ‘Sar’ with a ‘beyth, or ‘B’ prefixed to it. And in Hebrew, when a word that can stand alone in any capacity has a ‘beyth’ prefixed to it, that ‘beyth’ takes on the role of being a preposition indicating “in”. So, basar can just as accurately be translated as ‘in sar’, or “...in your princely quality or potential”. So how does this get translated as ‘flesh’? Flesh is that quality of my presence that is of benefit to those around me. Flesh is that which I manifest around others that they can partake of, and actually appreciate and identify with. My ‘flesh’ is that part of me that is worth eating. Remember, in the animal sacrifices that could be eaten, the priests and people were told to eat “...only the flesh”. Why? Because the ‘flesh’ of a sacrifice, any sacrifice, is the part that by eating you can improve yourself and your condition by adding the flesh of the sacrifice to your own experience. I remember an encounter with a cannibal tribe that said they only eat the parts of the sacrifice that they deem worthy enough to add to their own identity. When a cannibal eats another human, he is identifying and adding to his own stature those qualities that he admires, or desires. I won’t go any further with that. Your imagination will suffice.

Throughout the Old Testament ‘basar’ is used in different settings that sometimes are difficult to understand from English translations. However, Father showed me one verse that cleared all of the confusion and smoke from my thinking.

KJV Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

The Hebrew word translated ‘good tidings’ in this verse is basar. Wow! What a revelation that was to me. How beautiful is He that brings his ‘basar’, or good news, to my mountains (high places). This changed me instantaneously. I had previously understood ‘basar’ as flesh, but now I could see that flesh was actually that part of my presence that was beneficial, and desirable to others. No single concept from Hebrew has changed me more dramatically.

KJV Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings (basar) unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

Now let’s fast forward to John 6:48 thru 58. Yashua is trying to teach the people that “...eating his flesh” is actually identifying with His quality of Life. Remember Him telling Phillip in chapter 14, “If you have seen me, you have seen Father?” Yashua is describing a quality and character of presence that we have all longed for, but couldn’t identify. He tells us to “...eat of His flesh, and drink His blood” as identifying with His Life in us. He wasn’t telling us to become cannibals, but to recognize His Basar, and incorporate His Basar into our own experience and walk. How radical a concept that we would become His “...brothers and sisters and mother” by living our lives as He lived His. For when we do, we actually become “...Flesh of His Flesh, and Bone of His Bone”.

And now, let us go on to Communion. Communion is really a ‘common union’. It is truly us identifying with the Son of God, and by so doing, becoming Sons of God. Partaking of Communion doesn’t really make you ‘Son of God’. You are already Son of God because of the death, burial and Resurrection of Yashua, our elder brother. Communion only reminds you of that fact until ‘Son of God’ becomes your primary nature, and your walk becomes such that others want to “...eat your Basar”.

KJV 1 Corinthians 11:27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

When we ritualistically and religiously partake of Communion, and do not understand that what we are doing in this pageant is identifying that Yashua’s Body is now our Body, we are guilty of unworthily discerning that we are now the Body of the Resurrected Christ. His Basar has now become our Basar. We are now the Basar of God, and if we do not recognize that and identify ourselves as such, we do not benefit of the sacrifice we are consuming. In the Old Testament, the Israelites were told to eat the flesh of the sacrifice they are offering, and eat of it the same day it is offered. In Communion, we are to eat of the sacrifice of Yashua Our Redeemer, and in so doing, accept the benefit of partaking of the Sacrifice we offered Today! For Today is the Day of Salvation and Redemption. And until we do recognize ourselves as such, many are sickly, and fall asleep.

Let’s take one more quick glance at Communion.

KJV 1 Corinthians 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

As long as we continue the ritual of Communion and do not accept the change in our own identity that this pageant offers to us, we do shew the Lord’s death. When we partake of this ritual, and do not grow and mature into our own Christ Identity of Son of God, it is because we are not accepting of the reality that Yashua gave Himself up for us that we could then become the Many Member Body of Christ that this world is desperately in need of. If we take Communion, and don’t declare ourselves to be what God declares us to be, then Christ is still dead. But, He is not dead. He is Risen, and He ascended to Father, just as He said. The next time you take Communion, declare yourself to be the Resurrected Son of God that He declares that you are. Don’t let anyone's religion cheat you again. This world needs for you to know who you are, and acknowledge who you are.

I do hope this writing will challenge you to see yourself in a Light that you may never have considered before. And if so, this world will have become a better place.

Shalom and Shalom!
